THE PROJECT SUICIDE
WHO WE ARE ?
A volunteer suicide prevention project that aims to spread awareness regarding suicide and develop innovative clinical models by conducting research in suicidology and implantation of psychological research. Further, identification and providing volunteer first psychological aid to persons with suicidal ideations. TPS is using a socially integrated approach to prevent suicide by involving individuals in different segments of society such as educational institutions, public, corporate, and health sectors. TPS uses all the segments for awareness or research purposes to reduce suicidal behaviors and ultimately suicide across Pakistan.
United Nations' SDGs and TPS
The project is contributing to Goal 3 of the SDGs which states “To Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Target 3.4 is: By 2030, reduce by one-third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being. Within Target 3.4, the suicide rate is an indicator (3.4.2).”

Besides, the project will contribute to the other two action groups (Future Generations & SDG Summit) in the sense that:

We can free the future generation from stigma related to suicide which has several consequences such as not seeking help, demoralization, invalidation, suicide attempts, hopelessness, and so on.

We can develop an effective intervention for future generations to overcome the global problem of suicide. Conducting research and spreading awareness is crucial for that.

SDG Summit, as suicide, is a global problem and needs collective and global action to overcome or at least minimize it. Our efforts will bring the change of awareness, De- stigmatization, and research on developing prevention tools that will contribute to suicide rate reduction SDG 3.

Taking the complexity of suicide into consideration, our goals are broad and socially integrated as well.

OBJECTIVES

To arrange awareness sessions across different public places, organizations, educational and other institutes. And psychoeducate responsible individuals such as teachers, managers, and parents in order to identify and give first aid to persons with suicidal behaviors.

To create a psychological First-Aid Module for responsible individuals, who can more effectively manage persons with suicidal behavior.

To encourage more reporting of attempted suicides, by spreading awareness about the decriminalization of suicide law which has recently been repealed in Pakistan.

To create a dynamic and easily accessible portal platform, where not only is suicide information reported, but also where people at risk can seek help.

To develop a self-help Module that could be used in case of crisis and in the absence of professional help.
